This timeline of Nitro Type history documents every notable event that has taken place concerning Nitro Type.

2010

2011

  • September 8: Nitro Type first launches to the public. It is announced in a news post that development for the game had been going on for over six months prior to this and that Austin first created the idea for the game over five years ago.
  • September 19: The racing rewards system gets tweaked, as announced in a news post.
  • October 4: Sean Wrona joins the site and would hold the fastest speed legitimately set on the site until 2018.
  • December 3:
  • December 5: The Speed Racer achievement gets removed. [2]
  • December 10: Painting becomes available on the test site, as announced in a news post.

  • Between January 15 and January 30: Nitro Type leaves beta.
  • January 17: Every feature on the test site gets added to the official game, as announced in a news post. *January 30: Friend racing (previously known as private racing) is redone, nitro animations are added, and 3 new tracks are added. These changes were announced in a news post.

February 2012

  • February 9: The Hotdog Mobile's friend invite requirement gets bumped down to 10 friends only, and the 8 Bit Racer gets released (with 25 invited friends being the requirement), as announced in a news post.

April 2012

  • April 9: Nitro Type begins and announces a Facebook contest.
  • April 16: The aforementioned contest ends. All 11 winners get their prizes. The only known winner, the one who won $1,000,000 and a free car, is mmazumder, who chose the Mini Sherman.

October 2012

  • October 18: The ability to report users is announced and added.

November 2012

  • November 1:
    • F4U-Corsair becomes the first person to reach 10,000 races and receives a car named after him, the F4U Corsair, as announced in a |news post.
    • In addition, the Blitz Police Cruiser makes its first appearance (included in the car preview). However, it was not released until July 2015.
  • November 12: The ability to sell nitros and edit comments on the Blog (now referred to as the news) are added. The "Paint Car" button also gets moved to the Dealership, rather than the Garage. These changes were announced in a news post.
  • November 30: Nitro Type's very first event, the 2012 Xmaxx Event, is first announced.

  • Unknown date in October 2012: TR0N receives the "Nitro Type Savior" title and $3,000,000 as a reward for reporting a bug that caused the advertisements not to work. [3]
  • Unknown date in October 2012: The "Biggest Winners" section on the scoreboard gets removed.
  • Unknown date in December 2012: Vielle becomes the first person to complete an 800 race session, getting the achievement and title Nitro Type Master named after his clan.
  • Unknown date in 2012: Sean Wrona gets 212 WPM. This would be the highest speed record until 2018.

  • March 5: The Pirc is announced and released. However, CarriePirc didn't get it until shortly after it was released.
  • March 6:
  • March 14: Nitro Type hits 1,000,000 races in a week for the first time. As a result, everyone who logged in that week received $1,000,000.
  • March 22: A "Site Stats" section gets announced and added to the scoreboard. However, this section was removed with the release of Nitro Type 2.0.

  • June 5: The forums get shut down due to trolls.
  • June 7: The first summer event, the 2013 Summer Event, begins. Four new cars are released: The Summer Classic (then called the Classic Woodie), the Liberty '41 Woodie Deluxx, the Hang Ten, and Hang Eleven.
  • June 12: The "Classic Woodie" gets renamed to "'13 Summer Classic". It would later be renamed to just "Summer Classic".
  • June 15: Corndog announces that he will be extending the summer event by one week, so instead of ending at the end of July, it would end in early August.
  • June 16: The Liberty '41 Woodie Sunshine gets released.

  • June 20: Gold Membership gets announced and added, The Xcelsior V12 gets released, and the forums are brought back, however, only exclusive to gold members. Corndog confirmed that Vielle was the first person to purchase it. [4]

  • July 1: The Liberty '41 Woodie Sunshine is made unobtainable.
  • July 3: The Liberty '68 Roadtripper is released. Its release was announced in a news post.
  • July 24: The Hang Fifteen is released. Its release was announced in a news post.
  • July 25: The Liberty '68 Roadtripper is made unobtainable.

  • August 7: The 2013 Summer Event ends.

  • November 1: The Pumpkin Hauler is taken out of the Dealership and the 2013 Halloween Event ends.
  • November 7: CarriePirc becomes the first to reach 30,000 races and the Wach 6 gets announced and released.

December 2013

  • December 3: The 2013 Xmaxx Event is announced and begins, and Santa's Buggy and the Wreath Racer are released. The Rocket Sleigh and Party Sleigh are re-released as well.
  • December 5: Corndog changes the minimum news commenting level to level 20, and makes it so that anyone above level 40 can access the forums. Gold members of any level remain able to access the forums. [5] In addition, Travis' Car is released, exclusive to Travis only.

  • December 14:
    • Nitro Type begins accepting bitcoins for gold purchases, as announced in a news post.
      • However, sometime in 2017, the option to buy anything with bitcoin was removed, although the tab for it remained. From 2017 to 2019, if someone tried to purchase gold or cash with bitcoin, it would throw an error that says "The type 'bitcoin' is not a valid source type." At the release of Nitro Type v3, the option to use bitcoins to purchase gold or cash was removed.
  • December 16:
    • Like the previous events, it is changed so that people could get 50% more cash and experience by racing during the event, and like the last Xmaxx event, an event car would not have to be used to receive the bonus.
    • The Winson Dark Elf and The Golden Gift are released.
    • The ability to buy gold for other people is added.
      • Two extra Gold Membership options are added. $14.99 and $19.99 has the same benefits as the original $9.99 gold, but they give more cash.
  • December 22: Nightmare becomes the first person to complete a 1,200 race session (1,247) and breaks the record for highest session races (Beating Vielle's 1,005 race session record the previous year) and is awarded the Typing Nightmare title.
  • December 24: In hopes to keep the record for highest amount of session races, Vielle completes a 1,501 race session, however gets no reward for it.

Unknown dates, 2013

  • Unknown date in March 2013: Andrew1167 and Andy5692 become Nitro Type's first news moderators. Andy's account was later banned due to someone compromising his account and using it for an exploit 5 years later.
  • Unknown date in May 2013: Vielle becomes the first person to earn the Fonicci Tricolore.
  • Unknown date in October 2013: Realtime friend request notifications are added.

2014

  • February 9: Vielle collaborates with Nightmare and then moderator andrew1167 to do a prank on the news in which he logged into their accounts and set high speeds, then they pretended that they were "hacked".
  • February 10: Vielle's account is banned due to the admins' belief that he actually hacked their accounts, even though he already had their login information.

  • September 24: Nightmare is banned for abusing a site vulnerability to log into people's accounts and set high speeds.
  • September 25: Testing for the new track is made available to users. It is also announced that testers are needed.

October 2014

  • October 6: The test site is re-opened once again and announced again that more testers are needed. It was closed a few weeks later at an unknown date.
  • October 23: The Pumpkin Hauler gets added to the dealership, available for purchase for $1,500,000, and the 2014 Halloween Event is starts.
  • October 31: The Pumpkin Hauler is taken out of the dealership and the test site is announced to be reopened once again.

November 2014

  • November 14: Racing is made available on the test site. This was announced in a news post.

December 2014

Unknown dates, 2014

  • Unknown date in January 2014: CarriePirc becomes the first person to complete 40,000 races and is awarded the '14 Mantaray.
  • Unknown date in January 2014: Corndog's Car is created and Corndog gives it to himself.
  • Unknown date in February-March 2014: Travis/Corndog makes a forum post over-exaggerating the reason why Vielle was banned.
  • Unknown date in April 2014: "Vielle" is added to NT's filters, meaning that any post with "vielle" in it will automatically put the poster in moderation, and any name with "vielle" in it will not be approved. This was the premise for VFC's disbanding 4 years later.
  • Unknown date in May 2014: Damon5 completes a 1,838 race session and receives the title Typing Demon as a reward.
  • Unknown date in June-December 2014: CarriePirc becomes a moderator.
  • Unknown date in August 2014: Maximum players in one team is decreased from 200 to 50. "We know that those big teams won't like this, but unfortunately 200 members just doesn't make sense, and will not allow us to have proper team competition features in the future." - Austin in this news post.

  • November 16: Travis creates a news post challenging racers to race as much as they can on November 20th to try and get a site total of 1 million races in a day, offering rewards.
  • November 20: Nitro Type passes a total of 1 million races completed in a single day for the first time, with 1,035,384 races completed.
  • November 23: As a reward for helping the site reach 1 million total races in a day, TheCorndog rewards the 36,124 players who did at least 10 races on that day and were at least level 20 with $1,000,000. The people who did the highest amount of races on November 20 were also rewarded with the title Six Zero Racer, and for completing the highest amount of races, Turtle_Drawn receives the title I Like Turtles.

  • Unknown date in June 2015: iloveshoes2 becomes a news moderator.
  • Unknown date in October 2015: Yakirol becomes the first person to complete a session above 3,000.
  • Unknown date in December 2015: The Cruisin' Back achievement section returns, although the achievement requirements are slightly changed.
  • Unknown date in December 2015: A player's country flag and average speed begin to show up alongside their news comments.

  • January 3: The 2015 Xmaxx Event ends, as well as the Winter Olympics.
  • January 14: The first set of Nitro Type Olympics titles are distributed to players.
  • January 30: iloveshoes2 becomes the first person to reach 100,000 races.
  • January 31: The Blitz McLaro SLR is released, announced in a news post.

  • July 1: The Summer Olympics end.
  • July 11: The Y.A.C.H.T. is released, and the Six Four Plus Three is made buyable.

  • August 12: iloveshoes2 becomes the first person to complete 125,000 races.
  • August 17: The Blitz McLaro SLR 12.5 is released and the second set of Olympics titles are distributed.

September 2016

  • September 7: The order in which nitros empty out in races is changed from bottom to top to top to bottom. This was the effect of an update in which racers in certain WPM zones were given a limited amount of nitros per race.
  • September 8: The Nitro Type Discord is founded by Volhosis.
  • September 22: Seasons are released and Season 0.5 begins.
    • The all time, most active, and fastest racers scoreboards are removed, as well as their respective team counterparts, as announced in a news post.
    • On player profiles, the "All Time" column gets changed to "Season".

  • November 1: The 2016 Hallowampus Event ends.
  • November 2: Anyone with a session longer than 1,300 races had their longest session reset to 0.
  • November 9: The Motorcycle License and Truck Driver achievements are added and the Sports Coupes section of dealership cars gets changed to level 3 instead of level 5, and the Muscle Cars section of dealership cars gets changed to level 8 instead of level 10.
  • November 10: A Golden Retriever "Sudo", later renamed Nitro, is born, and later becomes the Nitro Type Mascot.
  • November 13: Wildflower first joins Nitro Type, later to be famous for founding Pinks R2 W1ld and having most races than anyone else.
  • November 23: A race server glitch occurs in which some races would count as "0 WPM", more than 5 people were able to be in races, some people received abnormally high speeds, and some races counted as very high amounts of time, falsely awarding people with the Typiano Pizza Car.
  • November 29: The XMaxx Xxpress is leaked in a news post hinting at the 2016 Xmaxx Event.
  • November 30: A bug causes Nitro Type to show the start date of Season 0.5 as this date. However, it actually started on September 22.

  • Unknown date in January 2016: Teaching.com's headquarters is moved from California to Puerto Rico.
  • Unknown dates in September-October 2016:
    • Arrows next to players on the leaderboards are added to signify how high they had moved up or down compared to the previous day. Arrows are also placed on player profiles and team pages.
    • The release of the Hall of Fame.
    • The "Scoreboard" gets renamed to "Rankings".
  • Unknown date in November 2016: HollowManNoToNitros! completed a 3,263 race session to gain #1 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in December 2016: Moises completes a 3,000+ race session to become #1 on the session Hall of Fame.

2017

February 2017

  • February 1: Season 1 begins.
    Lies

  • February 13: Nightmare is awarded the title Bug Smasher due to his finding of a glitch.
  • February 17: SECT becomes the first team to accumulate 1 million points within 24 hours. [9]
  • February 22: Travis announces that the admins will no longer be sponsoring the Nitro Type Olympics.
  • February 27: Nightmare is locked out of his account due to his use of the guest racer technique, which increased the number of races per hour he could do since it made bot loading times nonexistent. This was considered "cheating" by the admins. After emailing Corndog, he confirmed that he was locked out until Season 1 ended.
  • February 28:
    • Season 1 ends. Nitro Type removes Nightmare's 2.5 million points due to his use of the guest racer technique. This causes the season win to go to Smithy instead and SECT to lose the season to DOG, despite leading for the entire season.
    • In addition, iloveshoes2 becomes the first player to reach 150,000 races.

March 2017

  • March 3: The season titles for Season 1 are distributed. In subsequent seasons, the distribution of titles would happen immediately after the season ended. Season 2 is announced to start on March 6, and the third set of Olympics titles is rewarded. This particular set of Olympics titles would be the last to be rewarded for the next 3 years.
  • March 4: The Blitz McLaro SHS 15.0 is released.
  • March 6: Season 2 begins.
  • March 31: Season 2 ends, beginning NTA's 8-season win streak.

April 2017

  • April 4: Season 3 begins.
  • April 30: Season 3 ends.

May 2017

  • May 3: iloveshoes2 "accidentally" disbands NTA. She recreates it within a few hours.
  • May 4: A news post is created for the first time in two months. This was the first time that the admins mentioned in a news post they were working on friend races that could support more players than just five.
  • May 6: Season 4 begins.
  • May 28: Team statuses are released and an unused variation of the Bozz Strykist 1300 is leaked. These updates were announced in a news post.

June 2017

July 2017

  • July 1: Season 5 begins.
  • July 7: Nitro Type goes down for days undergoing a server upgrade.
  • July 9: The site becomes live again.
  • July 15: The DOG shivtr site becomes victim to a phishing attack. More information can be found here.
  • July 31: Season 5 ends.

August 2017

  • August 6: Season 6 begins.
  • August 12: The 2017 Summer Event ends.
  • August 31: Season 6 ends.

  • September 6: Season 7 begins.

  • November 1: The 2017 Hallowampus Event ends. Nitro, the Nitro Type mascot, also turns 1 year old.

    • The site gets redecorated with the holiday theme, the event bonus is made available, and the Rocket Sleigh is made buyable, however, the achievements are not made obtainable yet and the cars remain unreleased.
    • Season 8 ends.
    • The 2017 Xmaxx Event is announced.

  • Unknown date in February 2017: Smithy completes a 5,225 race session to take #1 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in April 2017: Travis announces that a "mini event with a car" would be coming "soon". This event was speculated to be an Easter event of some sort, however, it was never released.
  • Unknown date in August 2017: Moises completes a 5,335 race session in order to take #1 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in September 2017: TheRedBaron becomes an admin. He originally worked for Teaching.com as the statistics specialist, however, even at this time, he played a major role in informing players about upcoming updates. For this reason, he would later go on to be the community manager.
  • Unknown date in October 2017: Smithy completes a 5,526 race session in order to take #1 on the session Hall of Fame.

  • January 2: The 2017 Xmaxx Event ends. A news post is made showing several stats of the site in 2017.
  • January 10: Season 10 begins.

  • February 14:
    • Season 10 ends.
    • A spring event is announced.
  • February 18: Season 11 begins.
  • February 19: TheRedBaron becomes Nitro Type's community manager as announced in a news post.

  • April 1: The 2018 Spring Fever Event ends.
  • April 5:
  • April 10: The Blitz GT 20.0 is released, announced in a news post.
  • April 30:
    • Season 12 ends, beginning SSH's long 10-season win streak and ending NTA's 8-season win streak.
    • A PAC-sponsored event is announced.

May 2018

  • May 1: The admins accidentally start the PAC Event.
  • May 3: The 2018 PAC Event begins. The Rocky Roo is released.
  • May 4: Season 13 begins.
  • May 5: VFC is created by Tyrant.
  • May 9: RCWS receives a team interview from TheRedBaron.
  • May 10: The NitroPAC is released and May the Fourth is deactivated. These updates were announced in a news post.
  • May 18: The PAC Event ends, as well as Season 13.
  • May 21: VFC is picked to become the next team to be interviewed shortly after clutching Top 10 in the last few hours of the Season, but the Interview is never uploaded to the News.
    • Furthermore this becomes the last interview TheRedBaron would do for a while.
  • May 23: Season 14 begins.
  • May 24: VFC gets forcefully disbanded by TheRedBaron (TheCorndog had him disband the team) due to it being named "Vielle Fan Club" with "vielle" being considered an "offensive" term by NT.
  • May 31: The General Beauregard gets replaced by the Ponce de Leon, as announced in a news post.

  • July 4: The Golden Breeze is released.
  • July 20: The 2018 Surf n' Turf Event ends.
  • July 23: Rrraptor breaks the record for highest speed ever obtained on Nitro Type, with 221 WPM.
  • July 24: Season 16 begins.
  • July 27: SSH receives a team interview from TheRedBaron.

  • August 17: Multiple NTA members switch to SSH.
  • August 19-22: TheRedBaron is fired due to what Travis implied to be laziness.

    Corndog replying to an email from a player explaining why there were so many false flags.

  • August 22-24: Multiple different users get either falsely flagged or banned for "Cheating". This was due to Jackie Markot, the fill-in support specialist for TheRedBaron, accidentally pressing a button on the cheater reports list.

  • Unknown date in June 2018: Wildflower completes a 3,501 race session to become #3 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in August 2018: ClassicGeneral completed a 3,751 race session to gain #3 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in August 2018: anT completes a 3,777 race session to gain #3 on the session Hall of Fame.
  • Unknown date in October 2018: Nitro Type surpasses 1 billion total races.
  • Unknown date in December 2018: The news commenting requirements get moved from level 20 to level 40, and the cooldown between posting comments gets changed from 15 minutes to 20 minutes.
  • Unknown date in December 2018: Nitro Type surpasses 3 million total races completed in one day.
  • Unknown date in December 2018: Travis patches a glitch that allowed people to exceed the friend limit, however, in compensation, he makes it so that Gold Members can send cash to people who are not their friends.
  • Unknown date in December 2018: For a short time, there is an update in which the track shakes whenever a player makes an error while typing. This is quickly reverted, and changed so that the track would only shake whenever a nitro was used.

  • March 8: Nitro Type v3 Alpha is released for Gold Members.
  • March 9: The account of Andy5692, a former moderator, is used to generate billions of illegitimate cash via an API exploit. The cash was subsequently sent to players.
  • March 10: Season 19 ends.
  • March 11:
    • A news post calling for Gold Members to test v3 is released. However, this news post was later deleted.
    • Season 20 begins.
  • March 18:
  • March 24: The achievements page is released on the v3 alpha site.
  • March 25: The stats page is released on the v3 alpha site.

  • April 2: The "My Profile" page is released on the v3 alpha site.
  • April 8:
    • A new Nitro Type Discord server is created.
    • ayeyuhskuh's account gets banned due to attempted account theft and intent to take down the site.
  • April 10: The new Discord server is released to the public.
  • April 11: The team page is released on the v3 alpha site.
  • April 24: chak breaks the record for highest speed twice, with both a 233 and a 236 WPM race. [13]

May 2019

  • May 1: Racing is enabled on the v3 alpha site.
  • May 2: Track animations are released to all users. However, there is a random chance of getting them in races.
  • May 3:
    • SSO support, as well as the sign up page, is released on the v3 site, and non-gold members become able to log in and test.
    • Friend referral links are disabled.
  • May 8: The friends race chat is added to the v3 beta site.
  • May 9: The friends page is released on the v3 beta site.
  • May 10: The achievement Wiki Hero! is created and awarded to three Nitro Type Wiki admins.
  • May 11: Season 20 ends.
  • May 13: Season 21's start date gets pushed from May 15 to May 17.
  • May 15: Season 21's cars are leaked on Discord.
  • May 16: The leaderboard page is released on the v3 beta site.

  • August 12:
  • August 13: All news comments are removed, making it impossible to view comments from past posts.
  • August 17: asssa123 is fired from Teaching.com and his admin rights are stripped.
  • August 21: The new track is released to the newly reopened Nitro Type test site.
  • August 30: Season 22 ends.

  • October 4:
    • The 2019 Back 2 School event ends. The summary news post can be found here.
    • Season 23 ends and Season 24 begins.
  • October 7: Season 24's achievements are released, announced in a news post. in The Creepy Crawler, The Goblin, and Something Wicked are released.
  • October 16: A new version of the race track is released.
  • October 23: A new tab is added on the friends page that allows you to view racers you had raced against in previous races. In addition to this, the friends' chat is reduced to only seven available messages in total.
  • October 28: It becomes possible for team tags to have up to 6 characters rather than the original 4.
  • October 30: Various friends features are updated, which included raising the friends list capacity for Gold and standard members to 1,000, automatically having new racers get a friend request from Travis and Corndog, and adding a special icon in place of the Remove Friend X if it is a teammate.
  • October 31:
    • The achievements Nitro Type Master, All Hail, Bow Before, Typing Nightmare, and Typing Demon are made unobtainable due to Travis not wanting to promote players completing long sessions as it could be detrimental to their health.
    • Vielle gets unbanned.
    • Six new emoji options are added to the friend race chat options.
    • A friends race bonus is added.

November 2019

  • November 1:
    • The race results screen is updated to match the new track.
    • Friend symbols are added to the leaderboards.
  • November 2: The rewards for some of Season 24's achievements are changed, namely Spooky Fast, Fang-tastic, and Type Fright-er.
  • November 4:
    • Display names are changed to no longer allow most symbols, non-language characters, or emojis.
    • Team MotDs are changed to only allow 150 characters instead of the original 400.
    • Nitro Type goes down for maintenance and sends everyone that has logged in within the last year a friend request from Travis and Corndog.
  • November 11: Former admin asssa123's account receives a ban.

In a twitter post, Nitro Type postpones the event to the following day. However, during the time the cars and achievements were available, their descriptions stated that they were supposed to be part of Season 25, and not a 2019 Xmaxx Event.
  • December 3: Season 25 begins, and it is revealed that it is not an event but rather a season. Despite this, the Rocket Sleigh is still made available for purchase once again. Additionally, The Rocket Klaus, The Snowy Knight, Frosted Roller, Gingerbread GT, Cold Snap, and the Holiday Heat are released.
  • December 4: NoThisIsJohn gets the first ever 200 WPM race on Nitro Type while using the Dvorak layout.

  • July 21: Kocho, who was first place on the season leaderboard at the time, is banned for a short time. It was later clarified that the ban was accidental. [19]
  • July 30: Hysteria, who was competing for first place in Season 28 with Kocho, loses access to his account. It was later found that Kocho collaborated with Mal in order to hijack his account and ultimately get him banned. In the following days, Kocho and Mal were both disqualified from the Nitro Type Olympics, with many calling for their accounts to be banned entirely (though this did not occur). [20] [21] [22]
