Not to be confused with Wampus, the car it uses.

Badger

The Wampus

The Wampus is the rarest bot. It randomly appears in Nitro Type races. If a racer successfully beats The Wampus in a race, they will receive an extra $50,000 in race rewards. The Wampus uses the "You'll Never Beat Me!" title, which is exclusive to The Wampus. It is always the last racer to join a race.

The Wampus is considered an NPC in the game, yet the admins can still access The Wampus' account and perform any action that players can. As a joke, the Nitro admins said The Wampus was created when a bot tried to gain access to the Matrix and reprogrammed itself.

Profile Page

The Wampus has its own profile page created by the Nitro admins. It is one of two bots to have a profile page. To find its profile, players have to either search in the friend bar, go to its link directly, or type in "wampus" in the racer profile url, since it is not possible to click on The Wampus' profile after a race. The profile page has over 2.1 million views as of 2024.

  • Despite being added to the game on January 10, 2014, its join date is listed as September 8, 2011 on its profile.
  • It was once possible to add The Wampus as a friend, but that option has since been removed. All of the friend requests sent were rejected before the option was removed.
  • Before it became impossible to view other people's advanced stats, scattered throughout The Wampus' stats were many instances of the number 1,337, including gold, bronze, silver medals, number of races, longest race session, and number of nitros used. This is a reference to leetspeak, an alternative way to write text which is associated with hacker culture. 1337 is leetspeak for leet, an alternate spelling of elite.
  • Players can send cash to The Wampus, but it will do nothing.

The number of wins against The Wampus amounts to three different achievements:

History

  • 1/10/14: The Wampus is added to Nitro Type.
  • 5/17/19: An unknown user logs into and compromises The Wampus' account. The display name is changed to ᴹᴼᵘˢᵉℜ and later ThePetMouseofTravis. His team Wampus Postal Service, is disbanded. The user does one race on team GDJB. The Wampus car is painted, all other cars are sold, the Flux Cooper is bought, 20 races are completed, and 33 nitros are used. The account is locked shortly after, with its stats reverting back to what they were before.
  • 7/4/20: The Wampus' level is changed to one right before Season 28 starts to go along with the new season update. It previously used to be at level 1,337, which was the highest level account on Nitro Type.
  • 8/10/20: A new track is released for testing which features a fully animated Wampus. During the progression of a race, his head will move back and forth, his tail will flail, and his body shakes. He will also cry after losing a race and laugh after winning. Additionally, he has an animated Name Tag and a revamped fire trail.
  • 2/6/21: The Wampus receives many cars in its garage, such as the Flux Cooper.
  • 8/13/22: The Wampus receives the Liberty Model H in his garage.
  • Unknown date in 2023: The Liberty Model H is removed from his garage.

Trivia

  • According to Travis, the inspiration behind The Wampus came from the C64 game M.U.L.E..
  • Despite The Wampus' account showing that it has Gold Membership, on the track and on the race results screen, it does not show bolded gold text or a golden racer tag. Note that in races The Wampus' custom nametag is shown.
  • When The Wampus was released, he had a 1/50 chance of appearing in a race. It has since been changed to be less likely.
  • Season 28's theme revolved around The Wampus and introduced a new member of his family, Chompus, which can be seen in Chompus' Wild Ride.
  • Hovering over The Wampus at the end of a race plays a cackling sound effect.
  • Vielle inspired the creation of the Wampus.
