Games are the central and most important feature of Nitro Math. In a game, players compete against each other answer by answering math problems as quickly as possible by steering their car freely around an open area and driving over matching answers on the playing field. Before starting a game, players can choose which mode they'd like to practice.

Tutorial[]

When a player first plays a Nitro Math game, a tutorial pops up explaining the mechanics of the game:

Mechanics[]

Points[]

Points are earned whenever a player answers a question correctly.

Fuel nodes[]

Fuel nodes are colorful pellets with lightning bolts on them that appear on the playing field. They are used to fill up the boost meter.

Boost meter[]

The boost meter is a meter that can be filled up by collecting fuel nodes and answering questions correctly. It is used to boost.

Boost[]

Boost makes the player's car travel faster. The amount of boost available is determined by the boost meter. If the boost meter is not empty, pressing CTRL or holding down left-click will give the car a boost of speed that lasts until either the button is un-pressed or the boost meter empties.

Scoreboard[]

The scoreboard keeps tracks of all of the player's points and positions in real time. This appears on the left-top corner during a game.

Nitros[]

One nitro can be used per game which turns all of the answers on the playing field into correct ones. Using a nitro will fill up the boost meter.

Badge[]

Players currently in first, second, or third place will have a badge, or tag, trailing behind their car denoting their position. Any players below third place won't have a badge behind their car.

Incorrect Answer[]

If a player answers a question incorrectly, their car is slowed down for a period of time. The effects of boost are also decreased dramatically during this time. Note that questions answered incorrectly during this time period does not add time to the delay.

Games[]

There are two types of games: regular games and friend games.

Regular games[]

Nitro Math Disqualification Message

The disqualification message

Regular games are public games. When one joins a game, they will be able to drive around a more enclosed version of the playing field while waiting for others to join the lobby. They can collect fuel nodes and use Boost in the pre-game lobby, although their boost meter resets once the game begins. Players can flash their stickers at nearby players by using the number keys (1-8) on the keyboard. The game will start after a pre-determined amount of time regardless of how many players there are. Games can have up to 16 players per lobby.

Collect the correct answer to the question on the bottom of the screen by moving the car towards the polygons

Once the waiting time in the pre-lobby is used up, everybody playing will be rounded up in the middle of the playing field and the start countdown will play. After a few seconds, the game will start. Once the game starts, players can steer their cars around using their mouse. The goal of the game is to answer the math problem at the bottom of the screen by finding and driving into a matching answer on the playing field. Whichever player has the most points at the end of the 60-second time limit wins the game.

During the game, players also pick up fuel nodes that fill up the boost meter, which they can use to give their car a boost of speed. Players also have one nitro that they can use at any point in the game. If a player answers a question incorrectly, their car will slow down for a couple of seconds and the effects of boost will be decreased dramatically. If more than ten seconds pass without the cursor being moved, the player will be disqualified.

Tie for 2nd!

Tying for 2nd place.

At the end of a game, if two players tie in points, the player with the higher accuracy will be ranked higher. If two or more players completely tie for first place, then the game will enter Overtime. An animation will flash on-screen showing the first two people to tie going head-to-head, although Overtime can contain more than two people if they all tie for first. During Overtime, the first person to get another point wins. Note that if players tie for any other placement, there won't be any overtime. Instead, those players will have the same place ranking in the final results.

Upon completion of a game, a short animation will play showing the top three players in the round. After this, the game results, which shows the rankings of every player in the round, will be shown and the player will receive rewards. From here, the player can either choose to play again with the same math type or select a different math type to practice.

Friend games[]

Friend Stickers

Additional friend game stickers

Friend games are identical to regular games except that they are reserved for only one player and other people invited from their friend list who join using the player's join link. There are 8 additional stickers that players can use in friend games. Unlike regular stickers, these stickers can be used by pressing letters (Q-I) instead of numbers on the keyboard. As in regular games, up to 16 people can be in a friend game.

Game tracks[]

There are several tracks that have been used in Nitro Math so far.

Reception[]

Some players have commented that the gameplay is more of a result of chance than correct math solving skills because answer spawns are randomly clustered. This means that occasionally an area will not have the right answer available, resulting in players having to spend more time to get the correct answer. In the current state of gameplay, answers are color coded and three are given (blue, green, and yellow) and all pieces of the same color are given the same number.

Trivia[]

  • The movement of Nitro Math is similar to slither.io.
  • Games used to be 120 seconds instead of 60 seconds. This was changed sometime before beta testing was released for gold members. [1]
  • Accuracy used to be based on letter grades instead of percentages. This was changed on June 8, 2022.
  • It was once possible to play a Nitro Math game and a Nitro Type race at the same time, which allowed cash and XP to be earned at a much higher rate than normal. However, it has since been changed. Attempting to play a Nitro Type race while in the middle of a Nitro Math game will result in the player getting kicked out of the Nitro Math game and a message saying that they can't play both at the same time. This also applies vice-versa.
  • There was a glitch during September 13-14, 2022 that allowed infinite nitros to be used. This glitch has been patched.
  • Before automatic disqualification was added, players could complete games and earn rewards by earning one point and not playing for the rest of the game.
