Friend races, previously known as private races, are races that are ostensibly reserved for only one racer and four other people on their friend list. One will also receive a bonus of $50 for each friend who was in the friend race, just as in regular races.
Starting friend races[]
There are three ways to start a friend race.
- Going to the Garage and clicking the "Race With Friends" button.
- Going to the Friends page, clicking on the "Join a Friends Race" button.
- Going straight to the Friend race track link by typing in https://www.nitrotype.com/race/[original username] into the omnibox. This will lead one straight to their friend track without having to click on any other button, whether they were invited to the race or not.
After entering their friend race track, a player may invite people to their friend race by by clicking on the "Invite Your Friends" button on the bottom right. Friends who are invited will receive a notification telling them that they have been invited to a race and asking them whether or not they want to join. If they click the "Accept" button, they will be brought to the player's friend race track.
Once the user's desired friends join their race, they may start the friend race by clicking on the "Start Race Now" button. If four other racers did not join the race, then bots or regular racers will fill up the track. Once there are five racers/bots in the friend race, the race will start automatically.
The user starting the race (the race host) will always be in the top slot. The user who started the race may start a race without inviting a friend at all.
Canned chat[]
There is a canned chat feature in friend races. This serves as a feature to communicate with friends before the race starts. This chat is restricted largely because of Nitro Type's main audience: schools.
As of now, there are 8 options to choose from (although there used to be many more):
- Hello!
- I'm Ready!
- One sec...
- Let's Goooooo!
- I'm gonna win!
- Well played!
- Thanks!
- I've gotta go!
Previously, if one used the prepared chatbox, the color of their message would differ depending on their car position. If they were the first person, it was blue; second, red; third, yellow; fourth, green; fifth, black. Now the chat messages appear similar to stickers.
Race in Progress/Waiting for Host[]
This screen appears upon the player that is not a host accepts a friend's invitation or the race is completed. During this section, a player is given an optional order to warm up by typing the words with perfect accuracy with as many streaks as possible. The streak will be reset once the player pressed a wrong letter.
Cars can be shown passing by only when the race is in progress, but when it says "Waiting for host", cars are not shown at all. The only known cars seen in this part are the YT-5K, Demon XRT, and the stock version of Lance 722.
Casual Mode[]
Casual mode is set up so that a player's speed doesn't influence everyone else's typing text length. Instead, each player has their own text length for their specific speed bracket. This enables the race to be fair to those players who are slower than the fastest racer in the race.
Glitches[]
One glitch that can only occur during friend races is the possibility for six racers to be in a friend race. This appears as one racer's car appearing on top of another racer's. Once the race is finished, the "Race Results" section will only show five of the racers.
Another glitch that occurs is the duplication of a racer in the race results. One of the duplicates will have 0 WPM and 0% race progress.
